LYNCHBURG, VA(WFXR)–While the Major League Baseball season gets underway Thursday, the Carolina League season begins Friday night as the Lynchburg Hillcats visit the Salem Red Sox in the renewal of the Highway 460 rivalry. The Hillcats got into Lynchburg earlier this week in preparation for the season. The great news ahead is the Carolina League name is back after a one year break. The expectations on the season are high for the Cats as they are ready to play some games.

“We have really good talent, they are hungry to play baseball. We are going to have a pretty good season. We got the teams that we are going to have. They are really hungry to play ball this year,” said Lynchburg Hillcats manager Omir Santos. “I feel good we are just getting started in my first year of pro ball also. It was just my first year of pro ball so it is exciting to have my first real game. I have played since last May so we have a pretty solid team this year. We are pretty young. I am excited to get going to get the first year underway,” said Lynchburg Hillcats pitcher Jake Miller.

The Cats and Sox open up the season against each other Friday at 7:05pm from Haley Toyota Field.
