Former Radford Highlander Nick Mayhugh returns for a special honor

RADFORD, Va. (WFXR) — This weekend is going to golden one over at Radford University as one of the school’s most decorated alumni is back in town. Recently former highlander men’s soccer player Nick Mayhugh represented the united states in track and field at 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo where he set a world record and won 3 gold medals and a silver. Saturday night he will be recognized at halftime of the Highlanders men’s soccer game at Cupp Stadium. Mayhugh is honored to be back where it all started. “It is an incredible feeling to walk back and see the field that I that I spent 4 and a half years at. To come out here and see the track. I kind of focus on that and the soccer field. it is a full rush of emotion and the memories that set me up to be the man and athlete that I am today. It is great to be back,” said Mayhugh. Fans who attend the game can also meet Nick and get a photo with him and his medals. The game kicks off Saturday night at 7:00 from Cupp Stadium.
