SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — It was an inspiring night at the Roanoke Valley Sports Club in Salem as the group welcomed Southwest Virginia native and Giles County graduate Lauren Sisler. The two-time Emmy winner shared her emotional journey with the audience Monday night.
From losing her parents to a fentanyl overdose while she was a student at Rutgers to become a sideline reporter at ESPN, Sisler took great pride in being able to tell her story to a crowd in her own backyard.
“This is home. And this will always be home for me, even though I’ve been in Birmingham Alabama for over a decade now. Just getting to come back home and be part of this community and share my story that is the fabric of this area. Everything that has come from my life started here,” Sisler said.
“I do get to come home quite a bit but every time I come home, I get all the feels and the excitement and just being part of this community is always so special to me.”
Sisler is getting ready for her seventh college football season roaming the sidelines for ESPN.
