BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Since at an early age, soccer has been important to Blacksburg teen Taylor Allen and of course she is making the move down to Florida to advance her skills to get her to a college. “I did quite a lot of sports, soccer was something that I loved to do everyday. There wasn’t a time where I didn’t want to do this. every single day I wanted to do this. I would watch player that were older and how that made a living out of doing that. and I wanted that to be me,” said Taylor Allen.
Over a year ago, Blacksburg native 13-year old Taylor Allen was set to play her beloved soccer for the Blacksburg High School Bruins But last summer, Allen was spotted during a soccer camp in Florida by coaches from Bradenton, Florida’s IMG Academy. The school offered Allen a chance to go to the academy. To even sweeten the pot, IMG gave Allen a scholarship to play soccer there. In a two week span last summer, Allen took her talents to the Sunshine State.
“It was really fast so big decisions that I probably would use some more thinking. But I was ready to go. I knew it was right for me,” said Allen. The decision to for her to move down to Florida wasn’t taken lightly. “At first I didn’t know if I was going to be able to do it! I went to a bunch of go away camps. That only been like three days! I never have been away from home for more than a week of so! When I would never be the type I really need my parents. Of course I need them or I miss them so much that I would cry. But there are nights to where I would like a hug. But other than that I am good. I Call them every day an facetime them that is what makes it good,” said Allen.
Going down to IMG is paying off for Taylor. She feels like her game is improving. She says she is getting looks from several major colleges. In fact, her team is in the running for a national title. “It is crazy to think about. I never thought at the beginning of the season, I was good. But I never thought we would be this good. And go this far. It all came together this year and we never knew each other. So it is crazy we can come together and be this good. It is still hard to think about we could be national champions. That is crazy to me,” said Taylor.
Taylor and her IMG team we be competing for a national championship next month and they hope to bring one in as they will be one of 30 teams competing for a title out in California and then later advance to the finals in North Carolina.
