BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Less than a week before Saturday’s matchup between Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia, Bedford County law enforcement escorted the game ball all the way from Blacksburg to Charlottesville.

According to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, this escort on Sunday, Nov. 21 was part of the annual FIJI “Run Across Virginia,” which is organized by the Rho Alpha chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Over the past 15 years, officials say the donations and sponsorships from the run have raised more than $600,000 for the Jimmy V Foundation, which supports cancer research and treatment across the country.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, authorities say members of the Bedford Police Department assisted with the escort.
