ACC Tipoff Day 1

CHARLOTTE, NC (WFXR) — Charlotte is the queen city and it is also the capital for ACC men’s and women’s basketball as we have the ACC tip off. With the college basketball season just weeks away, the Virginia Tech men’s team looks to pick up where they left off – especially with the majority of their team returning. “We could potentially start three fifth year seniors and two true juniors. So consequently those guys have played a lot of college basketball they’ve seen a lot of plays. I catch myself because I don’t have to coach them a whole lot. They’ve got a really high basketball IQ each of them and I think it’s a very healthy environment where the older guys are coaching the younger guys and I am A-Okay with that,” said Virginia Tech Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Young.

But over in Charlottesville, the University of Virginia saw many of their offensive players go pro – but for Coach Bennett it’s up to his senior players to lead the way. “Losing Jay Huff, Sam Houser, and then Trey Murphy all those guys were such a big part of it. But that’s what I love about coaching. You have some young men that have been waiting their turn. Now Reece and obviously Kihei has the most experience with multiple years. Reece as a first year last year started and played a bunch. After that everyone is pretty much new to playing. You get excited about seeing opportunities that are in front of Kadin, Reece, and the other guys in our program and how they’ll evolve,” said Virginia Head Basketball Coach Tony Bennett.

Now when we caught up with both Coach Young and Coach Bennett one of the main themes that they talked about was the fact that both squads are going to have to be cohesive in order to find success on the court.
