BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Golfers and participants from around the area tee’d off Thursday afternoon for the 2nd annual Kip Nininger Scholarship Fund – Golf Benefit. The tournament was held at the Botetourt Golf and Swim Club. The Kip Nininger Scholarship Fund was created to honor the legacy of two time state wrestling champion Christopher ‘Kip’ Dowell Nininger who died in a car accident last may of the age of 19. For Kip’s father Chris – seeing his son’s legacy live on and touch so many people have been – amazing.

“Some of these events are tough for me because they do touch my heart but you know I hope my son is looking down smiling knowing that he’s touched so many people and had an impact on a lot of people’s lives that he didn’t even realize and we have moved that mission to help other people in his honor so you know it’s gratifying to say the least but again it’s all to honor him and help kids. We were able to give out 37 scholarships to recipients the first 12 months and give 48 to date so our plan is keep having these events while honoring my son and helping kids,” said Nininger.

Participants could also donate and bid on different sports memorabilia – with 100 percent of the proceeds going to kids.
