Staunton River celebrates quadruple letter of intent signings

High School Sports

MONETA, Va. (WFXR) — Four seniors signed their letters of intent to take their athletic talents to the next level.

Among them was Jacob Kirtley, who will be wrestling at the Division I level at Liberty University.

Kirtley, a three-time state qualifier, saw his senior wrestling season disrupted because of the pandemic, which sparked the motivation to reach even higher goals in college.

“Just going (to Liberty) on a visit, it feels like home. Everyone treated me like I was family there and I just fit in and it felt like the right match,” Kirtley said. “It means a lot. Everyone’s that supported me. I get to further that step and hopefully get that national title that I’ve been wanting for four years, longer.”

Also signing on Monday:

  • Aidan Brown – Bluefield College (baseball)
  • Jayson Eanes – Christopher Newport (football)
  • Jamelle Jones – Bridgewater College (football)
