ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Last week was a historic time for the North Cross Boys Cross Country team as they claimed their first-ever VISAA Division II state title. The Raiders won the meet by four points.
“It is an amazing feeling because the group I have is a group that has been willing to work year-round. They are out here on snowy roads in January and they are out here in July when it is 90 degrees putting in the miles training, going from cross country to indoor track to outdoor track and improving season after season,” said North Cross head cross country coach Edward Dickenson.
“It is such a big deal. We have worked so hard over the past two to three to four years to get here through rain, hail, sleet, snow, and they are such a great group of young people,” said North Cross senior runner Alex Dickenson.
North Cross runner Kerrigan Chaney also claimed her second straight state title. Roanoke Catholic boys finished runner-up in the team results within the VISAA Division III race.
