TROUTVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — One of the major high school golf tournaments in our area teed off Tuesday morning at the Botetourt Golf and Swim Club. It is the second annual Botetourt Metro Invitational. The tournament was formally known as the Bob McClelland Metro Invitational golf tournament. 13 area teams participated in the one day tournament. There were also a mixture of individual players. Tournament organizer and Botetourt Golf and Swim Club general manager Jeff Sprinkel is proud of the tournament’s return.

“It is good you know. I was joking to the players and the coaches, I played in this tournament 41 years ago. So it shows you my age. It has been around for a long time. I was glad to take it over here at Botetourt. We took it from the Roanoke Valley Metro Invitational to the Botetourt Metro Invitational. I am glad to have the kids and the coaches,” said Sprinkel.

Jefferson Forest won the team title with Salem coming in 2nd. Northside’s Nick Crawford won the individual title, Patrick Henry’s Caroline Gilreath came in second and Lord Botetourt’s Ashton Harper finished third.
