BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) — Tuesday night, over at Liberty High school in Bedford we found out the next person to take over the boys high school basketball program. David Williams was introduced to players and parents as the new head boys basketball coach for the Minutemen. Williams replacing Randy Dunton for the position. This is Williams first high school head coaching job as he was an assistant coach at Salem as well as running several AAU and club basketball programs in the Roanoke Valley. Williams played his high school basketball at William Fleming. Williams is excited about the opportunity to coach at Liberty High School.

“There is a mutual agreement. I think they have a need. In regards of how to change the culture. In the mindset of not only the athletes but the student and I am all student centered but at the same time it was right for me. With my kids being older now, it was a lot easier for my kids to get back into coaching. My wife and I are empty nesters. So she pretty much gave me the ok. Understanding that time away from home will be needed and being able to pour into this community. So I am really excited about that,” said Williams. Williams will be a teacher at the school coming up this fall to go along with his head coaching duties.
