NORFOLK, Va. (WFXR) — Zavione Wood scored three touchdowns on three big runs in the third quarter to lead Salem to a 28-20 win over Lake Taylor in the Class 4 championship.
The win secured the Spartans’ first state title since 2017 and the program’s tenth overall. It’s also the first championship for head coach Don Holter.
“I have got a lot more work to do before I am up there with Coach White and Stephen Magenbauer,” Holter said. “I am grateful, and I am proud to be part of this program.”
Salem erased a six-point halftime deficit against the defending champions and scored 28 points in the second half.
