Lord Botetourt’s bid for maiden title falls short as Lafayette wins, 27-13

Friday Night Blitz

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — History will have to wait another day for Lord Botetourt as the Cavaliers’ third finals appearance in six seasons ended with a loss, this time to Lafayette, 27-13 at Wanner Stadium.

LBHS took a 13-10 lead despite a missed extra point attempt when Dylan Wade scored a two-yard touchdown in the third quarter. But Luke Hanson’s rushing touchdown put the Rams ahead for good in the fourth quarter. Mike Green scored off a fake punt attempt to secure Lafayette’s first state championship since 2001.

The Cavaliers were simply thankful to even make the state final after a pandemic shortened season.

“It’s not us. It’s all Coach (Jamie) Harless and the whole coaching staff,” senior tight end Zach Horton said. “Coach Harless is just trying to coach, and I just give it to Coach Harless he built this program from nothing, and he’s dealt with too much stuff and for him to be coaching us like how he does it’s unbelievable and he deserves everything.”

Lord Botetourt finishes the season with a 9-1 record.
