LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Heritage held off a furious second-half comeback by E.C. Glass to claim the 2021 fall edition of the Jug Bowl, 49-42.
The Pioneers had a 35-14 lead at halftime before the Hilltoppers scored back-to-back touchdowns to get within seven. Quarterback George White connected with Jamarian Kittrell and Robert Wood to trim Heritage’s lead down to 35-28.
In the fourth quarter, Heritage restored its two-possession advantage when Elijah Steele scored on the short run to make it 42-28.
But Glass came back to tie the game when Kittrell and Taeon Mosby scored on dramatic plays, leveling the contest at 42-42. Heritage responded with a big touchdown throw from quarterback Kameron Burns to Darius Brown to take a 49-42 lead.
The Pioneers then recovered a last-minute fumble by the Hilltoppers to secure the victory. Heritage improves to 3-1 while E.C. Glass suffered its first loss of the year, dropping to 3-1.
