BUCHANAN, Va. (WFXR) – The James River high school football team is looking to make some noise this football season. Last year the Knights began the 2021 season with a 4-1 record.

Their year ended with a three point loss in the Region 2C quarterfinals against Martinsville. They finished the year 5-5 overall, and this season they’re focused on closing out games while also putting up a strong defensive effort.

“I think our intensity needs to be really high when we come out and even when we finish because I think we may have come out a little flat. Last year definitely our defense we were strong and this year we’re going to be about as good I think as we were last year. We have some really good linebackers filling in the spots that we lost and safety’s and I think we’re going to be really good this year on defense,” says James River senior center John Austin.

The knights open their season August 26th against Buffalo Gap.
