APPOMATTOX, Va. (WFXR) — The Friday Night Blitz preview parade making a trip to Appomattox as we check in on the Raiders. Appomattox is always in the running for a Class 2 state title as they have 5 of them the past 7 seasons.

Appomattox graduated a lot of key players from last seasons state semifinal team. The Raiders will now depend on a new group of seniors looking to make their mark for Appomattox both on the field and off of the field.

“They have gone through a whole lot of stuff, they have seen a whole lot of stuff. They were also younger seeing everyone else do their thing to accomplish the things they want to do. So they are definitely a tight group. They have definitely bonded together. They are good leaders. Our kids understand that grades are important. They need to be good in the community. They need to be good in class,” said Appomattox head coach Doug Smith.

“I feel like this team is going to have a good opportunity this year as long as everyone keeps their head together. We have faith in our quarterback. I think he is going to be good. I think as long as the O-line does their job and the receivers do their job and firing on all cylinders we will be fine,” said Appomattox senior outside linebacker/center Gabe Nitty.

The Raiders open up the season at home next Friday against Buckingham County.
