LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Our next stop in our Friday Night Blitz preseason tour takes us to the Hill City for a look at the E.C. Glass Hilltoppers. The Hilltoppers season in the spring was cut short due to issues with covid-19 as they played only 4 of the six games scheduled. Head Coach Jeff Woody says the team is ready to put last season in the rear view mirror and focus on the season at hand. “The energy level is all the way up. We have a lot of new coaches here. It was like a circus during the offseason and everyone is moving all over the place. We got three great coaches. They came in and everyone is trying to put out the good foot both coaches and players,” said Woody. “It feels great, we had a tough spring. It was great to have a quick turnaround. We were able to improve on a few things. But getting back out here in short order was really awesome for us,” said junior quarterback George White. “So basically, I don’t like to make excuses everyone had a COVID season. So it is like it is what it is. We were dealt a bad hand. So like everyone else. But like you said the resolve we had adversity from one season to another. You know how it was. We were down so we don’t want to be in that position so we gotta do what we have to do,” said senior running back Markevus Graves-Franklin. The Toppers open up the season at City Stadium on August 27th against the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers.
