VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — Time for another stop on the Friday Night Blitz preseason tour. We roll to Vinton for a look at the William Byrd Terriers. Brad Lutz is in his third year as William Byrd head coach. This season’s edition of the terriers features a good mix of seniors and underclassmen. He feels senior leadership will be the key to the success of Byrd. “We have a great group of seniors. They have been here all three years with us during the build. When we got here, there were only 17 kids left in the program, many of them were part of the group. They have done a good job at putting up building blocks in place to try to build the program. I am proud of them. I am proud of what they do on the field but off the field. They are turning into some solid leaders in the program.,” said Lutz. “We are helping the team become more prepared for the next level. We are ready for the Friday Night Lights. We have all been working hard this off season and getting ready to play,” said William Byrd senior offensive lineman Hunter Richards. William Byrd opens up the season at home on August 27th against the Liberty Minutemen.
