DALEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — This week’s athlete in Lord Botetourt Sophomore Jakari Nicely was simply sensational in his teams 42-7 win against Fleming last Friday – not only did he get the job done on the ground and scored a few touchdowns in the process he also picked up over 250 rushing yards as well – and he’s your player of the week.
“I just came out and did my best and that was the result. I just followed my blockers and went in the hole and that’s how it turned out. It just blew my mind on how good our team did and how our plans were executed. We knew they were going to be an athletic team and we just prepared and that was the result. We’ve been learning from our mistakes the first few weeks and we just keep growing, growing, and getting better each week. It feels like they’re my family and I just try to keep them together and just do our best. I kind of felt like Hunter Rice who we had last year, and I felt proud and glad I could help the team like I could,” said Nicely.
“What’s it like to follow in the footsteps of an Eller or a Rice?”
“It’s a very big accomplishment they’re role models to me and I look up to them a lot. I look forward to Friday night’s all throughout the week. That’s what I look for so it’s amazing when I’m out there. It feels like I have a good feeling when I’m on the field. But I get focused during the first part of the game to make sure we get ahead. Then I just have fun after that,” said Nicely.
“What does Coach Harless mean to you?”
“He’s like a father figure to me. He’s been there for me since I was in 7th and 8th grade. He just helps me with everything that I need, and I can talk to him about anything,” said Nicely.
“Who motivates you?”
“My parents. They just tell me to do my best and think about what I should do, and it just motivates me because I want to impress them and do the best for them. Last year was fun and it just rolled into this season and since I’m getting older and more mature, I can understand more stuff so it’s fun,” said Nicely.
