ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — We are exactly 3 months away from the start of the high school football season. We have a coaching change for one of our Friday Night Blitz programs.
WFXR Sports has learned that Stephen Alexander is leaving as head coach of the North Cross Raiders.

Alexander spent 13 seasons with the Raiders and led them to 8 state final appearances. He was also with them when they won 3 VISAA state titles, including last season.

Coach Alexander said he will be taking a position as an offensive coordinator for one of the top prep schools in Georgia.

Alexander told WFXR Sports he was thankful for his time as Raiders head coach and he is grateful for the opportunity he had to lead the program.

North Cross didn’t look far for their new head football coach, as the school named long-time assistant Shannon Taylor for the role. Taylor has been the defensive coordinator and assistant coach, working alongside Alexander for all 13 seasons.

Taylor played high school football and basketball at Patrick Henry, then moved on to play football at the University of Virginia. After his college playing days, Taylor played five seasons in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
