ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The first ever HBCU Basketball Showcase was held at William Fleming High School Sunday evening. The showcase featured basketball teams from North Carolina Central University, Winston Salem State University, Massanutten Military Academy, and Patrick Henry Community College.

Former Fleming high school star, and current North Carolina Central basketball player Dasmine Kasey was also in attendance. For organizer Champ Hubbard, the showcase was also educating and informing the community about HBCU’s and other means of high education.

“Our goal is to hopefully incorporate some workshops such as FASFA and also college fares so that we can let the community know more about the opportunities these kids have other than just the normal expectancy’s after high school there’s other opportunities to go to different colleges and we wanted to showcase that and hopefully build this foundation so that the momentum continues to move on,” says Hubbard.

According to Hubbard he is already planning next years showcase.
