While National Signing Day was last Wednesday, Glenvar waited until Sunday to celebrate three of its football players heading to the next level.
Landry Gerbers is headed to Charlottesville to play for UVa as a walk-on.
“It’s unbelievable, it’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to play at the college level. To see it actually coming true, it’s amazing,” Gerbers said.
Brayden Simmons will continue his football career at Division III Ferrum College.
“I’m greatful that my coaches brought me up and taught me enough to be able to play at the next level,” Simmons said. “I wasn’t even sure if I’d really play on varsity, but I had great coaches, pushing me and getting me to where I am today.”
And Maxx Philpott, a WFXR Friday Night Blitz Player of the Week last season, is going to Blacksburg to play for Virginia Tech.
“It’s an awesome feeling, really to be here with my best friends and experience this with them,” Philpott said. “I’ve grown up with these kids, so it’s always nice to be able to come back and talk with them, even though being up at Tech, I’ll never forget being with these guys. They’re my best friends still.”
