Virginia is tied with Texas and New York for the number of Division I men’s basketball programs playing in the NCAA Tournament.

Here’s a look at the five programs from the Commonwealth that will be dancing this week.

Virginia Tech

  • seeded fourth in East Region
  • third straight tournament appearance
  • First round opponent: No. 13 Saint Louis
  • First round game: Friday at approx. 9:57 p.m. in San Jose, CA

Virginia

  • top seed in South Region
  • sixth consecutive tournament appearance
  • First round opponent: No. 16 Gardner-Webb
  • First round game: Friday at approx. 3:10 p.m. in Columbia, SC

Liberty

  • seeded 12th in East Region
  • first tournament appearance since 2013
  • First round opponent: No. 5 Mississippi State
  • First round game: Friday at 7:27 p.m. in San Jose, CA

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)

  • seeded eighth in East Region
  • eighth tournament appearance in last nine seasons
  • First Round opponent: No. 9 UCF
  • First round game: Friday at 9:40 p.m. in Columbia, SC

Old Dominion University (ODU)

  • seeded 14th in South Region
  • first tournament appearance since 2011
  • First round opponent: No. 3 Purdue
  • First round game: Thursday at 9:50 p.m. in Hartford, CT
