Ferrum-Averett football game moved to September 19

FERRUM, Virginia — In conjunction with the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s July 3 announcement on return to athletic competition, Ferrum College has begun changes to its fall sports schedules. All league members will delay fall sports competition until September 11.

Director of Athletics John Sutyak has announced the first fall sport schedule change with Ferrum’s non-conference game against Averett University. The Ferrum-Averett game was scheduled for September 5 as the season-opener for both schools, but has been moved to September 19. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Frank Campbell Stadium in Danville, Virginia.

The Panthers are led by first-year Head Coach Cleive Adams, who spent the past six years as head coach at Averett. Adams posted a 26-14 mark in his last four seasons at the helm of the Cougar program. Adams also served as an assistant coach at Ferrum from 2003 to 2004 and again from 2007 to 2013, as well as two years as an assistant coach at Washington and Lee University from 2005 to 2006.

A native of Radford, Virginia, Adams played football at Ferrum under legendary Coach Hank Norton in 1988 and 1989. Both seasons culminated with the Panthers making appearances in the NCAA Div. III national semifinals.
