SALEM, Va. (WFXR) – Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium the Eastern Montgomery girls soccer team defeated Auburn to win the class 1 state title. The mustangs came up big in the first half from junior Lilly Underwood and senior Aija Mahone.

After going up 2-0 in the first half junior Madison Bruce was able to capitalize on a hand ball call in front of the net. The mustangs are now back-to-back class 1 state champions.

“I’m really proud of our girls and they wanted it heart, determination, motivation, and hard work all season is what brought us through this year. Back-to-back and last year was huge for us it was school history this year. It’s just that much extra, it’s the cherry on top and we had 7 players. We also lost 7 players last year that were true helpers for us, and they just stepped it up. They just really earned it this year I’m just so proud of them,” says Eastern Montgomery girls soccer coach Whittney Shaver.
