Virginia Tech player faces his former team in the Pinstripe Bowl

Commonwealth Bowl Blitz

NEW YORK (WFXR) — It’s been a packed schedule since the Virginia Tech football team arrived in New York for the Pinstripe Bowl. The Hokies got a bird’s eye view of the city from One World Observatory and visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum before practicing at Columbia University.

That’s where they were again on Monday, Dec. 27, fine-tuning their game plan against the Maryland Terrapins in the final full practice session before the Pinstripe Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Interim head coach J.C. Price says they knocked the rust off on Sunday, Dec. 26.

Remember, this is a team that looks different from the one last took the field in the Commonwealth Clash. A number of players have entered the transfer portal or opted out to focus on the NFL draft, but the Hokies trying their best to stick to a routine during a week that’s been anything but.

“We’re just trying to stay doing what we normally do, but just doing it on a different day. So like you said, today was Thursday, yesterday was Wednesday, but you’re still staying on the same practice schedule and what not,” said Virginia Tech senior offensive lineman Johnny Jordan.

The Hokies went on a shopping spree Monday afternoon in Manhattan. They’ll have brunch at Central Park Tuesday, Dec. 28 before getting the lay of the land during a walkthrough at Yankee Stadium in the afternoon.

“It’s good. You know, New York is a really fun time. I think we’re going to have some really good practices here and we’re going to start getting ready to go into game mode and get ready for Wednesday,” Jordan continued. “I think the Pinstripe Bowl has a lot of great events planned and I think we’ve all had a great time just being able to see New York because a lot of guys haven’t been here before and just being able to explore the city a little bit.”

It is worth noting that Jordan is a former Terrapin, which means he is about to face his former team from the University of Maryland, College Park in the Pinstripe Bowl on Wednesday.
