CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Next Wednesday, the University of Virginia (UVA) Cavaliers will be playing Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs in the first ever Fenway Bowl in Boston. It will also be the last game at UVA for Bronco Mendenhall as he will step down as head coach after the game.
Mendenhall has been trying to keep things as normal as possible in preparing for the game, but when he went into his office on Wednesday, Dec. 22, one thought did hit Mendenhall.
“What really did we do that added value, that might have just helped? And, so, today you caught me reflective. Probably not prior to today, but it took, kind of, a symbolic visual, so to head down that road, but I can’t stay there because we’re working, right, and we’re working toward a goal, so maybe the next wave will be after the game, which is appropriate and my team, they deserve that and that’s what I’m committed to do,” said Mendenhall.
UVA takes on SMU in the first ever Fenway Bowl for Fenway Park in Boston. Kickoff is set for Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m.
