WINSTON-SALEM, NC(WFXR/AP) — In a surprise move, Wake Forest announced Wednesday night they fired women’s basketball coach and former William Byrd and Demon Deacons women basketball star Jen Hoover, after 10 seasons. School athletics director John Currie pointed to the program’s overall trajectory for the decision as well as turnover on the coaching staff.

Wake Forest has made the NCAA tournament just twice in its history, in 1988 when Hoover played for the Demon Deacons. The other time was when Hoover coached the Demon Deacons to the tournament 2021.
Wake Forest won just four ACC games this past season. In a statement, Hoover said she was “disappointed and deeply saddened to receive the news that i was terminated today without cause.”
