LEXINGTON, Va. (WFXR) — After leading the Keydets to the FCS playoffs for the first time in program history, VMI head coach Scott Wachenheim earned the 34th annual STATS Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award Tuesday.

A 40-member media panel voted to award Wachenheim the honor after VMI finished the 2021 spring season with a 6-2 overall record and the program’s first SoCon championship since 1977.

The award adds to a long list of accolades for Wachenheim, who was also named the SoCon Coach of the Year for the second season in a row. He also earned the AFCA Region 2 Coach of the Year, and the Touchdown Club of Richmond’s Bobby Ross Coach of the Year award given to the top Division I college football coach in the commonwealth of Virginia.
