Virginia Military Institute will play James Madison in the first round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs on April 24 with kickoff set for 2 p.m. The game will mark the Keydets’ first ever appearance in the FCS playoffs. The 16-team playoff bracket was unveiled Sunday morning.

The winner will face either Missouri State or North Dakota in the quarterfinals.

It will be the 14th meeting all-time between the Dukes and Keydets but the first since 2009. JMU is also 7-0 at home vs. VMI.

VMI earned an automatic bid into the postseason after defeating The Citadel, 31-17, on Saturday, clinching the Southern Conference title for the first time since 1977. The Keydets finished the regular season with a 6-1 record.

James Madison enters the FCS playoffs as a No. 3 seed with a 5-0 record, earning an at-large bid despite winning the CAA South Division title. The Dukes finished as national runners-up in the 2019 season, losing to North Dakota State.

Delaware was awarded the Colonial’s automatic bid by committee on Saturday after defeating Villanova, 27-20. The Blue Hens will host Sacred Heart in the first round at 7 p.m. on April 24.
