BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Fifth-ranked Virginia Tech bounced back from an upset loss to Ohio State on Friday night to earn its first dual win of the season with a dominant 39-4 win over American University at Cassell Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

The visiting Eagles got on the board first after No. 16 Jack Maida upset fourth-ranked Eddie Ventresca in the 125-pound match with two takedowns en route to a 9-0 win.

But in the 133-pound division, Sam Latona got the Hokies on the board with a dominant 12-1 decision over Maximilian Leete. Virginia Tech won every subsequent match, including tech falls by Caleb Henson, Mekhi Lewis, and Andy Smith. Bryce Andonian secured the quickest win of the afternoon with a fall at 1:36 in the opening period over Kaden Milheim in the 157-pound match.

Virginia Tech hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to Piscataway, N.J. to face No. 17 Rutgers on Friday.
