CHARLOTTTE, NC (WFXR) — It’s day two of the ACC Basketball tipoff event in Charlotte. With the spotlight on the women and at Wake Forest, Roanoke native Jen Hoover is entering a milestone season on the sidelines.

The former William Byrd basketball player gets set for her 10th season at the helm of her alma mater. Last year, Hoover became the winningest coach in Demon Deacons history and has 146 victories to her name.

Wake Forest is coming off its second NCAA tournament appearance and first since 1988, earning the number nine seed in the big dance and as she reflects back on the last decade, she says she’s learned plenty from coaching in the ACC.

“It is insane. I can’t believe it’s been that long. It’s hard to imagine that it’s been that long but when I start to go back and start to talk about some of the players that played for me and even in my first class, when you start to think about the kids and some of those have had kids, that kinda starts to sink in, like, ‘oh wow, it’s been 10 years,'” said Hoover. “You’ve got to believe in your kids and I love these kids, I believe in them and I believe in us and every day in practice I try to make sure that they know that.”

Wake Forest opens the season on Nov. 9 at Mercer. The Demon Deacons will host Virginia Tech on Jan. 2, 2022.
