SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke College Maroons softball team is back in the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 2013. They were selected as one of the 19 at large teams in the 62 team field.
Wednesday, the Maroons hit the bus for their 7 hour trip to Cleveland, Ohio to face Concordia-Wisconsin in a four team double elimination regional. Roanoke run to the big dance is special due to the family atmosphere for the team.
“We are back in the tournament. It has been a long time. We are super excited to be there. We have been working really hard to get back to that level. The girls have done a great job to get there so it is fantastic,” said Roanoke College head softball coach Mike Mitchell. “I think we have great team chemistry this year. We have a lot of fun in games, we have a lot of fun in practice. We all get along and we joke around and we have a great time with each other which helps us trust each other on and off the field. On and off the field we trust each other and we like being around each other so it helps,” said Roanoke College sophomore catcher Kate Houle.
Double elimination for the Maroons as they play Concordia-Wisconsin Friday at 4:30pm in Cleveland, Ohio.
