BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia Tech football began their fall practices Tuesday. The Hokies resuming the highly anticipated quarterback competition. That will be contested over the next few weeks between a pair of transfers who both shined during the spring.

Former Marshall QB Grant Wells and South Carolina transfer Jason Brown are both auditioning for the starting role in the maroon and orange. New head coach Brent Pry says they both bring different styles to the field. Brown with his experience playing in big games in big venues while wells brings a sense of calm in the pocket. Wide receiver Kaleb Smith says you can’t go wrong with either guy.

“Coach Pry is going to have a hard job determining who’s going to be that man he’s going with. They both. They have completely different kind of styles. Both guys are very successful in their approaches and the competition is going to be great,” said Smith.

“Both of these guys bring a ton of experience, a lot of maturity. They’re leaders. They’re workers. They have different skill sets. I’m really excited about both of them. Whichever guy ends up No. 1, we’re going to have a hell of a good No. 2 to go along with it,” said Pry.
