ODAC schools look to return to action next spring

FOREST, Va. (WFXR) — After the coronavirus pandemic wiped out any fall competition in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the league announced plans to return to action in Spring 2021.

“As we have all learned over the past nine months, prudent planning and the capacity to respond quickly to changing circumstances go hand in hand,” Dr. David Bushman, Bridgewater College President and chair of the ODAC Presidents Council said. “We believe putting detailed plans in place now for a return to competition beginning in January is the best way to honor the commitment we make to all of our students.”

In a press release, the ODAC says competition will return on January 23 with men’s and women’s basketball with other sports coming back as the spring semester progresses. Basketball would feature a 12-game single round-robin schedule with the top four teams competing in the conference tournament on March 4. The championship game is set for March 6.

Football is set to begin a spring season as early as February 26 with a minimum five-game schedule.

Spring sports, including lacrosse, baseball and softball, would follow its regular schedule.
