LEXINGTON, Va. (WFXR) — The No. 11 Lynchburg men’s lacrosse team used a strong second half to defeat Hampden-Sydney, 18-7, in the ODAC men’s championship in Lexington on Sunday.

The victory marked the Hornets’ third conference title in the last four tournaments and ninth overall, securing the ODAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Kyle Lewis and Riley Mitchell each scored four goals while Dylan Wolfe added a hat trick in the victory.

“I thought we were in more of a feeling out process in the first half versus just playing you know? Once we found our footing in the third quarter, I thought we started to get into a rhythm that we like to play at,” head coach Steve Koudelka said.

Lynchburg will travel to Union College in Schenectady, NY to face Western New England in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday.

“This is our ninth one and we’ve been in it every year since 2014 so there’s an unbelievable expectation that our guys have to be great and you get to that championship feeling, it’s a pretty cool feeling for those guys.”
