LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty left-hander Emily Kirby tossed a four-hitter and Amber Bishop-Riley hit a fifth-inning RBI single, as Liberty opened the 2021 ASUN Softball Championship with a 1-0 win over Lipscomb on Friday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
Facing elimination against top-seeded Liberty, Lipscomb won a wild, back-and-forth game, 8-7 in eight innings on Friday to force a decisive third game of this weekend’s 2021 ASUN Softball Championship quarterfinal series.
The Bisons, the fourth seed in the ASUN North Division, improve to 18-17 on the season. Liberty (38-13), which won game one this afternoon by a 1-0 score, saw its winning streak end at 17 games.
The winner of tomorrow’s game between Liberty and Lipscomb will advance to next week’s ASUN Softball Championship semifinal, held Thursday through Saturday at Kennesaw State’s Bailey Park.
