CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Cavaliers football program getting into the fall camp spring of things as they got their fall preparation for the upcoming season under way Wednesday night. It was a day of firsts for the University of Virginia football team. The first day of fall camp for the players and the first official day of fall practice under Cavalier’s head football coach Tony Elliott.
Wednesday evening it was all about observing the young talent as the team looks to (set the tone) establish the 1-0 mentality and find what the identity of the team is. For Virginia head football coach Tony Elliott this first practice was all about watching his team compete while going over the fundamentals.
“First we had to go back to the basics I just think fundamentally across the board at every position we just had to get back to the fundamentals. So starting there and we had to add on the D-line and we added on the offensive line but it was youth. So we’re going to have to develop the veteran guys who don’t have a ton of experience. For us as coaches to make sure that we instill confidence it starts with the fundamentals and then as they continue to improve then we can focus on the schematics,” said Elliott.
The first day of fall camp under head coach Tony Elliott is in the books – but the road to the college football season for the Cavaliers has only just begun.
