MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (WFXR) — Virginia Tech fell shy of a return trip to the Sweet Sixteen after losing to West Virginia on penalty kicks.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw and Pau Jimenez Albelda’s strike secured the 4-3 win in the shootout after the Hokies couldn’t convert two of its kicks.

West Virginia struck first in the seventh minute when Ike Swiger finished a cross in front of the goal.

Hokies senior Jacob Labovitz scored the equalizer in the 56th minute, notching his ninth goal of the season.
