BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — For the first time in program history, the Hokies’ path to the Women’s College World Series will go through Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech earned the right to host a NCAA regional after receiving the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA tournament. The 64-team field was announced on Sunday night.

The Hokies will play St. Francis (PA) in their opening game on Friday. Miami (OH) and Kentucky will also compete in the Blacksburg regional. Both are teams Tech faced and won against earlier this season.

“It’s a big deal to host and be on your own field during regionals and postseason,” VT head coach Pete D’Amour said. “I’m looking forward to seeing a bunch of people in the stands.”

Liberty softball returns to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season after winning the ASUN championship over the weekend in Jacksonville, Fla.

The Flames will travel to Durham, North Carolina and will play Georgia in their opening game on Friday, marking the first meeting ever between the two teams. No. 12 seed and host Duke will take on UMBC in the other game that day.

It’s the fifth time Liberty is playing in the NCAA tournament.
