BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Friday, Hokies did what Hokies do: support their team. As Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball team took on the first round of the NCAA tournament, fans poured into Blacksburg’s streets and bars.
“Mostly we get busy with the men’s team but I’m excited to see fans for the women’s team come out to support them,” said Olivia Erim, employee at Sharkey’s, where fans flocked to watch the game on the big screen.
Bruce Brockwell, a VT Alum from the class of 1990 drove in from Richmond to see the women’s team win against U.T. Chattanooga 58 – 33.
“We’ve never seen them play live, but when they made the tournament we wanted to do that,” he said. “We feel like we know them even though we’ve never met them because we’ve been watching them for four years.”
