LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — For the Liberty Flames football team, a redshirt freshman quarterback in Kaidon Salter came of the bench to lead LU to a 4 overtime victory over Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.

Salter was one of three quarterback to play for the injured starting QB one in Charlie Brewer. Salter threw a pair of touchdowns and scoring what proved to be the game winning 2 point conversion in overtime.

“Couldn’t be prouder. I thought he elevated the whole team and all the players around him. There’s been no secret, we felt like he is extremely talented. And it’s just a matter of him handling everything that comes with playing the position. Hopefully this motivates him to make sure the details of his life, the details of preparation, the details of studying the game like it needs to be studied, like the offense needs to be studied, hopefully that motivates him. Because there’s no question, everyone saw and witnessed what his potential is,” said Freeze.

“Last week I was mentally prepared, watched film, studied. At practice I wasn’t getting many reps but I was taking those mental reps because you never know when my time will come…I just go out there and be me. Just play and have fun. It’s not to prove a point to nobody. I prove a point to me and myself. So I just go out there and do what I do…It’s time to start my reputation in college football,” said Salter.
