College Sports

FERRUM, Va. (WFXR) — The Ferrum Panthers and Averett Cougars open up the college football season against each other Saturday night at 6:00 from Adams Stadium in Ferrum. This game has a special connection when it comes to former Ferrum player and current Panthers head coach Cleive Adams. Adams was the head coach for six seasons at Averett. Coaching at Averett was Coach Adams first head coaching job. Adams said there are other factors with this game other than playing his former team.

“Obviously it is going to be a big game. I think it is great for small college football in this region. To have this type of rivalry. Going down there for 6 years and coming back home. It is the first opportunity to play my former team. I am not going to sit here and says we are not excited. I am looking forward to it. We still have to take care of the little things, take car of us take care of the execution portion of what we do to go down there and put the ball down and see what happens,” said Adams.
