FERRUM, Va. (WFXR) — Ferrum College has announced a new Director of Athletics and he is no stranger to the Panthers.
On Monday, Oct. 9, the school announced that Cleive Adams was promoted to the college’s Athletic Director.
This comes after the college’s previous director, John Sutyak stepped down in August 2023 and became the Director of Athletics at Husson University.
After a search, Adams was chosen as the best candidate for the position. However, before Adams took the position, he served as the Head Football Coach at Ferrum. Before joining the Black Hats, he completed six seasons as the head football coach at Averett University.
“Cleive Adams is a proud Ferrum alumnus and was a standout player under coach Hank Norton’s fabled Black Hats football teams. He is passionate about reinvigorating the College’s winning tradition across all men’s and women’s sports,” said Ferrum College President Mirta Martin.
Adams says this will be his last season as Ferrum’s football coach, as he transitions to focus on his new position full-time.
This is a great day for Ferrum Athletics. I’m very fortunate that when I came through, I knew Coach Adams as a player. He’s very passionate as a player and a coach. I know he will take that same passion as athletic director.”
– said Adams.
The Black Hats have a 2-3 season record. On Oct. 14, the team will battle the Washington and Lee Generals in Lexington.
