(RALEIGH, NC) – Due to the ramifications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the cancelation of the Division III NCAA Women’s Volleyball tournament, the USA South will conduct divisional tournaments. There will be no overall Conference champion this season.

In the 2021 Spring USA South Women’s Volleyball East Division championship match, played today, April 17th in Raleigh, North Carolina, second-seed Averett defeated top-seed, and host, William Peace, 3-2 (25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25, 15-4), to capture the title.

Averett came out strong, taking the first two sets and doing so by leading each of them throughout. William Peace would not take its first lead in a set until the third as the Pacers went on to capture that frame as well as the fourth to force a deciding fifth set. In final set, William Peace built an early 4-2 lead but that would be the last time the Pacers put a point on the scoreboard as Averett tallied the next 13 points to take the set and the match.

Averett’s Zamyiah Mangum and McKenzie Miller each notched double-doubles as Mangum totaled a match-high 17 kills with 13 digs while Miller posted a match-high 45 assists with 17 digs. For William Peace, Brienna Laskowski and Brittany Carpenter tallied double-doubles as Laskowski totaled 12 kills and 14 digs while Carpenter posted 35 assists and 13 digs.
