CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — In game one of the series, the 7th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies beat the 11th ranked Virginia Cavaliers 5-2 Friday night at Disharoon Park. For the first time in the history of the Virginia Tech-Virginia baseball series, both teams entered the series ranked in the top 15.
“There’s good Friday night wins and they’re are real good Friday night wins and this is certainly a very good one and I have to give a ton of credit Green goes out and gives us 7 on the road he’s been doing it for I don’t know how many weekends in a row and Graham was tremendous behind him. We got some big hits you know. One of the biggest plays of the game I think offensively for us is when Cade Hunter gets into a potential double play and busts it down the line and we win the review and score two runs after that and if he doesn’t do that and he’s out maybe you don’t score the two runs. So that was a huge play in the game,” said Virginia Tech head coach John Szefc.
Game 2 of the series is Saturday at 4pm. Former Cavalier and Washington Nationals great Ryan Zimmerman will have his number retired before the game.
