Boys Basketball ‘Lights: Hidden Valley squeaks by Staunton River to punch state ticket

Sports

The Hidden Valley boys basketball is headed back to state. It’s a goal head coach Kevin Burcham’s boys had since the beginning of the year but it wasn’t easy. The Titans fought off a Staunton River team who took a 37-36 lead with just over two minutes left to go in the fourth quarter. On the next possession, Hidden Valley’s Jonah Fitzgerald was fouled and sunk two clutch free throws to put his team up 38-37. Staunton River would get another good look but Kalip Jones’ three pointer from the top of the key fell flat and on the next possession the Titan’s sealed the deal catapulting them to the regional championship behind a 40-37 win. Fitzgerald had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Hidden Valley will play Northside on Friday.
