Blacksburg Bruins prepare for the Friday Night Blitz Game of the Week

Blacksburg, VA(WFXR)-“Luke has done a phenomenal job of stepping up,” said Blacksburg head coach Eddie Sloss. Luke Goforth has waited three years for the role of starting quarterback at Blacksburg. “He has worked his hind parts off. Offseason, he’s a three sport player, plays basketball, baseball, football. He’s in early morning workouts before school starts. he’s put everything into this program. he’s definitely earned his spot and the guys respect him. He’s such a competitor. I’m looking forward to seeing him play for the rest of this year, ” said Sloss. Goforth was the back-up to three-year starter Grant Johnston — who helped lead the Bruins to a state semifinal appearance last season. “He did a great job. I feel like from his experience and me learning under him, gave me the ability to go out and prove something last Friday night,” said Blacksburg quarterback Luke Goforth. What Goforth proved was his capabilities as a starter. The senior threw for over 150 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-0 victory over Giles — showing what he’s learned from his predecessor. “Always be a killer go at it. Don’t back down. Having that mentality that if you mess up, you always have next play to redeem yourself. Always have confidence in the offensive line that they’re going to do their job,” said Goforth. The trust between the offensive line and Goforth goes both ways and the bruins are relying on that trust to get another victory. “Our quarterback made a lot of key plays. I thought o-line did our jobs real well. Still some stuff we got to work on. We got a big test coming up against Lord Botetourt, they’re going to be big and physical and I think we’re going to be ready,” said Sloss.
