CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WFXR) — Joining other collegiate athletic conferences that have already cleared the remaining of their schedules for the school year, the Big South announced Wednesday that it will cancel all spring athletic activities for the 2020 season.

The Big South, which Radford University is an institution of, follows the likes of the ACC and ASUN, who’ve already decided to cancel competitions and practices for the rest of the academic year due to ongoing concerns surrounding the spread of the coronavirus.

The decision was made by the league’s Council of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) in consultation with the Council of Athletics Directors to protect the health and well-being of student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans.

The Big South also said that if any of its member schools decide to reopen for the 2020 spring semester to conduct in-person, on-campus classes, any athletic activities held will be up to the school.
