MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Alex Bowman is taking home a grandfather clock from Martinsville after winning a tense race that determined the field of four championship contenders in next week’s Cup Series finale.

Bowman was chasing down Denny Hamlin in the final laps before spinning the No. 11 car out, forcing the caution flag and an overtime restart. Hamlin fell back to 24th while Bowman held off Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski to take the checkered flag.

Hamlin drove his car by Bowman’s on the home straightaway after the race, raising tensions between the two drivers.

Hamlin still qualified for the Championship 4 based on points. Martin Truex, Jr. claimed the final spot after finishing fourth, making up ground in the final laps at the Paperclip.

Chase Elliott secured his spot in the championship field after winning the first two stages in the race. Elliott, Hamlin and Truex, Jr. join Kyle Larson in contending for the Cup Series title in Phoenix next Sunday.
